power steering pumps

Has anyone out there ever seen, heard of, or know the name of a power steering pump that is small and mounts on the end of the generator. Saw one on a 60 JD, it was about the same diameter as the generator and apeared to be hooked with a coupler or the generator had an extended shaft and the pump was hooked to a charr lynn power steering. Was not factory and the neatest job I ever saw for home installation. Would like to have one to put ps on a UBE. Thanks for help,Dale

I do not know the manufacturer of the gen and pump combo but I recall my dad saying they came from late "50s Chevys. We used one on our GVI when we converted it to a narrow front end for pulling back in the "70s. It worked pretty slick but as I recall it was a little slow but that might have been due to our set up being purely hyrdraulic.

Maybe it was. Look at an early 3 digit or late Super series Oliver. It it similar to a 57 Chevie except tractors have the short frame generator. I would not recommend it in this day and age. Why Once in a while the armature breaks and the vanes in the pump wear out then you better set down if you need one and you do find one and you here the price.Your chance of finding replacement armatures are like picking 6 numbers to let you win the lottery.

I had a '55 Chrysler that had the power steering pump mounted like that. That was also the last year of 6V Generators, come to think of it. Haven't seen one in years.
