Six cylinder GB gas?

This has me really stumped. A friend of mine found a GB the other day, but it has a six cylinder gas engine in it. I thought it was just a modification done after factory, but he swears up and down that the tag on the engine read "425-6" and that the production date on it said August, 1957. I thought the only gas GB's had the 403-4 engine, and that the 425-6 gas was introduced on the GVI. Could this be some kind of experimental model?

I'll try to get a first-hand look at the tractor soon, but I believe what he's saying. He's not the kind who would feed a friend a line of BS.

Thanks.

Hey Blue Whether that big six was factory on not it is still has got to be really sweet. You are certainly right about the gas 425 being built back in the "40s, I also ran across some info about experimental military vehicles with this engine. Imagine buying one army surplus for about $50. or so and slipping it into your old blown up tractor. Would be great to see some pictures. Thanks, Harry Case,Allis,Moline nut

The 425-6 may have been a power unit engine built before the GVI came out right? Best thing to do is get the numbers. Check the tractor tag too.

I think you're right, Mopower. I dug up some information that confirmed that the 425-6 gas engine was built as a power unit back into the 1940's. So, I'm guessing this tractor started as a GB-D, and got a 425-6 gas dropped in somewhere along the line. Hence why it looks original, they wouldn't have had to modify the tin or anything to accomodate the new engine.

What really struck me, is that my friend said it looked very, very close to original. Also, it wasn't equipped for pulling, it was still working on a farm. Might still be a good conversation piece at the shows, though. ;-)

You can argue this topic till your dead, collectors tell you it was something MM never made, and pullers tell you it was a factory option.
Who know but to my thinking hes feeding you a line.
