My grandpa has a MM UTU that won't charge. It is still a 6 volt, he had the starter and the generator rebuilt, and still has trouble with it. Do you have to polorize these generators? If you do, what is the process. Thanks for your help. -Dan

With battery and generator connected, engine NOT running, momentarily jumper from regulator "Bat" terminal to "Gen" or "Arm" terminal. There will be a spark. Jumping from "Bat" to "F" (field) could take out the regulator. This is for either 6 or 12V system.

This is for type "A" generator (Delco on MM is type A.Field grounds through regulator) The jump from field wire to battery is for type "B" regulator/generator where field grounds to generator case.

I just did this: with generator hooked up, with a wire, jump from the F or Field post to the battery-BAT terminal. All it needs are a few seconds don't hold it long.

Do NOT jump from BAT to A or Armature! that will ruin the regulator.

A U is normally positive ground, but if you polarize the regulator it should work either way.

Hey..... Thanks! I had to do that to my Oliver 77 and I haven't had a bit of trouble. So I'll probably try that tomorrow. Thanks for your help! -Dan
