Hey guy's I am a bunch confused on what the various letters mean after the "Z" like TU AU etc.. Is there a website the can clear this up for me? I found the list of serial numbers for various years but can't seem to sort out what the letters mean. Thanks and sorry if this a stupid question. Jerry

Z tractors made 1936 to '55: ZT '36-'48, ZA '49-'53, ZB '53-'55. 3rd letter designates front end type: U is universal, 2 wheel narrow front; N is narrow, single wheel; S is standard, wide front solid axle; E is extendible, variable wide front.

Thank you very much--do the same letters apply to the R and the U models? 2nd letter is the years made and third is the front end configuration? Is this correct? Thanks

Jerry,
The third letter meant the same thing for the R, Z and U but not the G series as all G series had standard fixed tread front axles.
Second letter is the series but the years are different between the R, Z, U and G models. There was only one R series (No RA or RB series - just RT). The UT was 1938-1957 but not all the front end types were built in the later years due to the introduction of the UB series. The UB was 1953-55 and the UB Special series was 1955-57. UB Specials had interchangeable front ends so the third letter was dropped at this time. The G series used the third letter to distinguish series through 1954. GT (sometimes called a GTS) 1938-41, GTA 1942-47, GTB 1947-54. The GB series came out in 1955 and continued through 1959. The one wrench Moline threw in was the GTC model from 1951 to 1953. The GTC was a propane only version of the GTB tractor during those 3 years.
