I have a 1940 UTS that has a stuck 283 KEC engine
upon removing the head I see that the #2 cylinder is badly rusted and pitted. I am removing the block and pistons from the crankcase to send to a machine shop. I belive that #1, # 3& #4 will be ok as they only show mild rust in the cylinders. #2 is the real problem.I know they will either have to bore the cylinders, or bore and sleeve the block. I was wondering if is possible to bore the block to enough to use "G" pistons ?

That would require a 3/8" overbore and you still couldn't use the G pistons as they work in about a 2" taller block. U bore should be 4-1/4" and G bore is 4-5/8".

M5 pistons are close to the right height, but its still a drastic overbore for the block. If it was a later engine with 2 blocks and heads you could substitute M5 blocks and heads. (And pistons and I don't know which rods you use-the M5 or the U-well probably the U rods because its a KEC engine) But I don't think your KEC engine has a provision to oil the rocker arm on the rear head, being a 4 cylinder block with only 1 rocker arm assembly and the only oil tube at the front.

I have successfully sleeved the later twin cylinder blocks and put the old 4-1/4" piston back in. I think that would be your cheapest route.
