Mag and distributor for an R

I have a '45 RTU with a Wico distributor (not a mag.) I want to replace it, as parts are not only hard to find, but spendy as well.
I've been told that a Delco distributor won't work, as the drive gear on the cam is different. Apparently, the Wico uses the same drive gear as a magneto would.
I've got a magneto, and would like to put it on.
Is anyone familiar with this Wico distributor, and will I need any additional parts to make this switch? I have not taken it off yet. Does it have the same driving lugs as the magneto, or is it set up differently? The parts book I have makes no mention of the Wico distributor. Thanks in advance!!

If I understand right you are taking off something like a Wico XB battery distributor that mounts with same SAE mag flange which has a gear reduction dist rotor on it just like the gear reduction magneto it replaced that could have been a Wico XH, C or FM-J or X mag so yes the mag will bolt right on. I don't think you have room for the Delco gear reduction dist where the reduction is in gear box. The direct drive battery distributor requires the gear change inside beause the dist rotor is direct drive and no reduction of speed okay?

Molinegb, do you recall if you had to change the drive on your oil pump, or did the mag bolt right on? I could pull my distributor off and look, but I didn't want to do that until I was ready to make the switch. If I need to find some other drive parts, I'd like to have everything on hand before I started taking anything apart. Thanks!

I just took off a Wico distributor off a U. The original mag bolts right on.The only difference is the Wico has a wire to supply voltage and the mag has wire to ground out via switch on dash. Yours should be the same if it has the same end on the Wico as the mag. If not you'll have to change the drive to the mag. To do this you have to remove oil punp, bottom drive gear loosen set screw in front of block and drive shaft out. There is 2 mags on Ebay under MM.
