I hooked up a cylinder to the rock shaft on my UTU and pulled the lever to activate it. The hydraulics are now stuck. I unhooked the linkage, but the control lever at the resevoir won't return to neutral. I think I need to relieve the pressure to get it to return. Is there a way to relieve the pressure without opening up the reservoir?

Bill,
First off, in normal operation, there should be no hydraulic pressure on that valve unless the cylinder is moving. That is why it has to have the MM cylinder or a cylider with built in check valves to hold a load.

And even now, with the engine off it looks like the pressure would soon equalize.

The way its made inside is there are two spools. The control lever turns a shaft with a gear on it that forces one spool in one direction and the other in the other direction. so when you move the lever from neutral, one spool forces oil from the pump to the cylinder and the other directs oil from the cylinder back to the reservoir. (If you open it up you will see what I am talking about.)
There is a arc-shaped piece in there with 3 detent positions on it-the center is neutral, of course. I am betting that there is something wrong with the detents or it has jumped over the end of the arc.

My only other idea is there is trash in the bores the spools operate in. Those spools are precision fit-make sure you get the correct one back in the hole it came out of.

I dont think so...if it did it now it will do it again. That happened on our ZA ...it kind of goes over center with worn parts and doesnt come back.
You may have to take the side cover off the res. to get it back to neutral.

Were you using a MM cylinder? The others might not work due to the MM cyl having the Pressure control valve in the cyl. John
