445 power steering lines

does anyone happen to know for sure on the steering lines which one is suppose to be pressure and which return? mine was apart when i got it and i have always had trouble with the steering, so this past weekend i resealed it and it almost looks to me like i might have the lines reversed, but my I.T. and parts book dont really show which line is which, so thought i best ask.

I'm sorry it has taken me so long to reply to this topic. I finally remembered to look at my 445 that is all together. The hydraulic line that is fastened to the pump goes in the hole furtherest away from the radiator on mine at least. I think this one is stock, it had been setting 20 years when I got it. If you have the 445 repair manual, p. 69B the lines from the pump are numbered 26 and 23. My repair manual shows a dashed line from the return line #24 to the hole it goes in on the Valve-damper assy. and that is the way mine is hooked up. HTH Sorry it took so long to think of looking at the tractor. now I need to get my 445N-LP running.

thanks for the reply. i will look at that page and see if i see the same thing. i rehooked my lines that way you were saying but did not seem to make much improvement on how the steering works. again thanks.
