Hi there, recently purchased this tractor and engine was not running at the time...We pulled it around the yard and at a slow pace, we had 30 lbs of oil pressure...what happened next is when we were pulling it the dipstick came flying out with alot of pressure. Would this be a bad piston or rings? Or could it be a valve stuck...Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Well, we got the heads off and found a broken push rod...luckily found no other damage. I am still puzzled about the crankcase building up pressure. It looks like when the valve broke the exhaust filled up with soot on that cylinder and somewhat plugged it off. We have the heads into the machine shop right now and he is checking them over.

First off did you get it to run while you were pulling it? If so did it run smooth? It is possible that you have a head gasket leak to push rod holes. We could use a few more clues and would be happy to hear what you finally find wrong.

Hey Silver Bullit Sounds like the crankcase ventilation is stopped up some how. Even if the rings are worn out the pressure in the crank case should be vented. Or maybe there is an obstruction in the exhaust. Spin the engine and determine if there is any pressure coming out of the exhaust. Also pull off the valve covers and make sure the valves aren"t stuck. Those big pistons can pump up a lot of pressure. Let us know when you find out what is causing this, this could be a real dandy. Good luck, Harry Case Allis Moline nut
