I have the chance to buy a 1948 MM ZTU but I need some advice first. It has been sitting outside for 10 plus years and the exhaust wasn't always covered so it is stuck. The sheet medal is in pretty good shape except for the gas tank, the filler neck is gone and the hood hinges and stuck. One rim is shot and so are the tires. The clutch is stuck disengaged. The steering is stuck at the support bracket. And lastly the transmission doesn't shift. Is this project too far gone or is it still salvageable? If it is salvageable where is a good place to get parts? And what could be wrong with the transmission and the clutch? He wants $450 for it but I haven't tried to talk him down yet. Thanks,

Be careful on these my brother had one that was stuck and we could not free it up. Had a ZA the same way, brother took a sledge and oak 4x4 to it and it would not move. My advice fine another block before you purchase it, and don't give more than $200.00 for it.

I would call this a parts/scrap tractor and I wouldn't pay a quarter of that price. If you have your heart set on restoring it, be prepaired to spend alot of money on parts and maybe even purchasing another parts tractor just to get this one going. It will take alot of your time too. Bringing an old "junker" like this back to life is a thrill, as I have done it. My biggest problem is lack of time, sometimes projects drag on for years.

Way too high and would be a donor tractor at best. Too many stuck items on it to be worth more than scrap. But hey that's just what I think and wait until you try to get those pistons free. Good Luck on your endeavors!
