I can't find my G VI parts book, which is hard to believe as I have every thing so organized(yeah, right). I have a '59 G VI and a '62 G VI and the cylinder casting numbers are different. The '59 is 10A10248 and the '62 is 10A3006. Of course the injector pumps are different but is that the reason the cylinders are different or what is the difference? The blocks are both 10A10200. Thanks for any and all info. Roger

Rog:

I would make room in my barn for one of them, or both. So I hear, great deere hunting artillery. As you know, these ponies are about fifty years old; and even the "great ones" need some freshening up after enough trips around the globe. For a spell CT used one large rebuilder in the midwest for their parts source. Some have claimed that sometimes parts numbers got changed, updated, after a trip through that rebuuild shop. Might this be the case? It certainly can lend to confusion. best, Yeoman

BMG1, I wondered about that but what I found in my G1000 book is that the part number was 20A20248 so must be the part number and the casting number of 10A10248 don't always match. I remember when my Dad was an MM dealer, he always said to watch out as casting numbers didn't always match part numbers. Guess this is the case. Thanks much for the info!!!! Roger

Roger,
The 10A3006 are the original 425 cylinder castings for a GVI. The 10A10248 are the cylinder castings for a 504 engine. These were origianl equipment on G705/6 engines. Based on this info your '59 is now a 504 engine and your 62 is still a 425 engine. All GVI tractors came from the factory with 425 engines both in LP and diesel.

You are correct on the engine serial numbers not matching the tractor serial numbers. Moline produced their engine seperate from the tractors so its highly unlikely you'll find the engine and tractor serial numbers to be the same. Units from early in a production run have numbers close to each other but late in a production run stationary engine sales increased the difference between serial numbers.

Bottom line is just because the serial numbers don't match does not mean the engine is not factory original to that tractor. Quite the contrary in reality.

Brian

Lanzboy, I may be wrong but I thought from everything I have read that the bore and stroke was the same on all factory G VI's. I also goofed in my inital message, as my one G VI is a '61 not a '62. "Fat fingers". The tractor sn on the '59 is 16200788 and engine sn is 16400766 (close but no cigar). On the '61 the tractor is 16201946 and the engine sn is 16402765, quite a difference here. I think this is due to the fact that they were making a lot of stationary engines for such things as irrigation pump unit and rock crushers at the same time they were putting them in tractors. What is the sn's on your '62? I would think that they would be even further apart as time went on! But MM did some unusual things. Roger

My father and i have a 59' Gvi and i think you will find that the cylinders are bored out more on the 62' model and also the castings were made stronger(?)The casting number on our block is 10A10200. Just out of interest, does the engine serial number and the tractor serial number (on the gearbox) match? The numbers on our tractor are 19 digits out,
Regards Brett
