We have a 1961 Minneapolis Moline GVI diesel. Recently due to problems with the injector pump (roosamaster DBG model) we had to get it rebuilt. When we rebuilt the pump we had a 39 head put in it instead of the stock 37 head so we could get some more fuel and hopefully more horsepower. We did manage to increase the horsepower of the tractor only a little (around 90 horsepower now) but are looking to get around 100 or so if we could by just making some minor changes. We were hoping that the extra fuel from the pump and some timing adjustment would get us 100 horsepower easy but it did not work out that way. Are we doing something wrong or what else can we do to get the horsepower we need. No new motors or major overhauls are an option.

Havent been on the comp. for a few days.Your 425 and 504 have the same stroke 5" the 425 has a 4.25 bore,504 has 45/8 bore. The head no. on the 425 is 10a4214 and the 504 is 10a4222 I dont think theirs much difference in the two.Bore and rpm is the difference GVI ran 1500 78hp and the 504 lets say a G1000 ran 1800rpm. 110hp.

These diesels dont respond by over fueling the HP goes down. They have poor head flow and their not direct injected. You could put 504 blocks and piston in it and gain some HP.up to maybe 120hp.I have a Massey 97diesel and turned the fuel up looked like a frieght train coming down the track the extra fuel didnt help a bit made it worse.

Does the GVI have the same crank and bottom end as a Massey 97/G705? By putting 504 pistons in our GVI will we have to change anything else in order to maintain the engine life or is everything else the same from the 425 to the 504 engine?

By simply swapping the heads and putting the G705/Massey 97 heads on our GVI will be gain horsepower due to increased air flow or will this make no difference? What is required or what do we have to modify in order to change the heads? Will they just fit right on with no modifications?
