Model GTB Oil pump drive

The governor on my GTB wouldn't govern. What I discovered was, the gear on the camshaft, that drives the governor is severly damaged and won't drive the governor. The driven gear on the governor shows no sign of damge whatsoever which I find a bit strange considering the shape of the gear on the cam.

What I also find strange is; the engine has good oil pressure. Is the oil pump not driven by the same gear on the cam that drives the governor or is it drive by another means? I may have located a camshaft as a result of my Classified Ad but I'm wondering if I should also look for the gear on the oil pump in case it's about to crater. It could be a while before I get it tore down so I'd like to get parts coming in the meantime.

Get the parts coming. You are correct, the governor and oil pump both drive from the camshaft gear. You are lucky the governor gear is still intact. When you get it apart check to make sure the oil pump shaft is straight along with the governor shaft. All 4 1/4 and 4 5/8 4 and 6 cylinder engines drove both governor and oil pump at right angles to camshaft.

The oil pump is also driven by the cam as well, but not in the same place. It is driven by a gear that is bolted on the front of the camshaft.

Kevin,

Not certain what you are thinking of here but the oil pump and gov both drive off of the spiral gear in the center off the cam. It is no different than Us, 5 Stars, M5s, ..... .


Unless I miss understood the question, I believe the Captian's information is accurate.

OOOPPPS! I am man enough to say I was wrong. I was thinking 206 on the brain. I have only had four of those 206's apart this year. Man I should have known that especailly after having four 5 stars, a M5, 2 U's and of course a GTB.
