problems with UB headgasket

I have a 1953 UB completely overhauled. 43/8+.060 pistons, head machined, block shaved .125, Complete valve job, #3&4 cylinders are running around 135lbs compression. It just blew the head gasket between #1&2. Acording to my manuel dry studs can be torqued to 130ftlbs. Can the heads be torqued more than that and what can I do to stop this? Thanks for your help!

Torque all the head bolts to 175 ft lbs the factory updated the specs in the late 60s. The stock gasket should cover the overbore but you definitly want to check you want to make sure and use the one piece gasket not the two piece from the later engines.

You may need to use the head gasket for the 45/8 bore. Look and se if the fire ring is suported by the block,if any part of the gasket is over the cyl bore use the bigger gasket. This should give you about 1/16 in to 1/8in set back.

Did you use a gasket cement? CLEAN,CLEAN,CLEAN and clean somemore before assembley.
