UB Special Production?

From what I can tell from the MM serial # chart, the UB Special was only produced one year. Is this correct? Also what was so special about it?
What might one be worth that has sat for 20+ years,engine locked up, tires no good. Ran on LP
Tin work good. One more question - What would the chances be of getting the engine loose again after sitting out side for 20+ years with no exhaust cover? Wouldn't the cylinders be rusted beyond repair? Thank you for your help.

The Special had power steering optional and split front pedestal. I
Think it was built 2 years

I'm not sure what the UB Special is worth, But most of the U's that I have seen in the condition that you discribe go for $200 to $250. Keep in mind that even used rear rubber that is decent will run anywhere from $125 on up per tire. You also have the problem that the engine is stuck. So I would try and keep the purchase price low. I did get a '47 UTU that was stuck and stored outside for over 30 years loose. So it can be done. I pulled the heads and the pan, and took the rod caps off. Then I pulled the cylinder blocks with the pistons and rods in them. I then took the cylinders and blocked them up high enough off of the floor that the ends of the rods were hanging above the floor about 10 inches. I then took a 25lb cylinder of propane with a hose attached to the tank without the regulator and set it on the bench upside down so that I would only get liquid. I then opened the valve on the propane cylinder wide open, and held the end of the hose close to the top of the piston that I was trying to get loose. What you are trying to do is to freeze the piston to get it to contract. After you think you have it froze good, take a 10" long piece of 4x4 lumber with the corners trimed off, and set it in the top of the side of the cylinder where you froze the piston, and give the 4x4 block a few sharp raps with a sledge hammer. The piston should pop right out! By the way, be sure and were welding gloves or something simuliar so you don't freeze burn your hands, and don't SMOKE or do this in a confined space. Make sure you have PLENTY of ventilation!!!

Saw a UB special LP sell a few years ago for $800. Fair rubber, no rust, ran well. Figure on at least new pistons and sleeves for the one you have. Probably more.
