We have a G1000 that we use for PTO work running a 15 in. 80 ft grain auger. It pulls hard and makes the tractor work...our 4020 cannot even do it. My problem on the G is that we boil oil out of the hyd vent. Is something wrong or what could be causing this??

Refresh my memory. I need to look at my G-1000 book and I have it packed away. Put a candy thermometer and check the temperature. From just hydraulic fundamentals you have a major problem. Can you send me a phone number. J.

we drained the fluid and put fresh in... and yes it does make a difference if we do not load the tractor heavy. It does not appear to slip but who knows...it does have a good snap to it, is there another way to tell ? Thanks

schrockfarm hope you find whats wrong. Got a vista that does the same thing when just using the 3 point. It also does it when using the pto. The 3 point is week, got a 5 bottom semi-
mounted plow it won't pickup very well. Maybe this well help with solving the problem. Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I've not heard of this happening before, but things to check:
1) Is your tranny fluid and hydraulic fluid the correct type and filled to the proper level(s)?
2) Is the PTO clutch slipping? Does the lever engage with a definite 'snap'?

If this overheating doesn't happen working it hard by pulling it (not PTO work), I'd continue to look into the PTO drive-train. Can you run the auger _without_ pulling the engine as hard (maybe without slipping the clutch?)

Another thought has occured to me...is it _oil_ that is boiling, or could you have some water in the hydraulic reservior?

Duane
