expansion plugs

I am restoring a 1941 R series and have removed and soaked the cylinde blocks. Upon inspections, I noticed two expansion plugs which have deteriorated. I am able to slide a coat hanger faily deep into one of them.....Can someone tell me where these lead (to water jacket?), and how I should go about rectifying this....can I JB weld the expansion plugs holes..... THe other expansion plugs are fine. Thanks you very much. Mike McMurray

Mike,
The expansion plugs lead to the water jacket. Replace all the expansion plugs when you have the cylinders off. They rust from the inside and they'll all be bad. Napa will probably have new plugs. Most autoparts stores won't have the thin type plugs. They only deal in the cup type plugs. Any good tractor repair shop should be able to hook you up too. I get mine from my local Case/IH or NH dealer.

Don't waste your time putting the cylinders back on if you don't replace the plugs.
