super 4 star trans fluid

I forgot to ask. What trans fluid goes in one with a TA? And how much normally? It took me foreever to figure out how to fill the hydraulics. Having to remove that cover where the two levers are below the seat.

All my experience is with Kubota, case, david brown and IHC. This is a new one on me. This tractor came with our farm a couple years ago and the manuals all disappeared in the estate sale the previous owner had. I got the sludge all changed out in the engine but haven't messed with the back end yet. It's about time considering all the work it does around here.

for your hyd system you should have an elbo at the front of the system right in front of that cover you took off . you can put oil in there or look at one of the newer tractors they use a dipstick at the back and I have made a homemade one on all our older MM's just like it.

I know some of the earliest Jetstars did not have that elbow on the front of the control valve body. They used the same 3 point with built in filter like the 445s. So I don't know if all the 4 stars had that elbow or not. It sure is handy if its there, though.

I believe that regular gear lube or 90 wt. is recommended. If you operate the machine in low temperature, I wouldn't be afraid to run hydraulic oil in the torque. The rear end should have gear oil or 90 wt. also.

See, this is why I need to find a owners manual. Could you please tell me where to fill the TA? I didn't even know it had a seperate resovoir. The previous owner had been using hyd. oil in everything on it. And drip oil in the engine because it was cheap. The antifreeze was just mud when I checked it. He told me to fill it up with water everytime I used it. I flused it really good, thinking something would blow within a week, but I refilled it with 50-50 prestone and water and it's been a year with no leaks there. I haven't had to add to it either. I put a baldwin oil filter on it and mystic 30 weight. I run mobil 1 10-30 in my farmalls that I already overhauled. I'm gonna get my moneys worth out of them. Thanks! Dan

As I recall, there is a hole on the right side of the housing ahead of the torque engagement lever. The hole is approximately 1" round and plugged with a bolt and washer with a rubber gasket around it. This is actually the access hole for adjusting the torque clutch but it can be used to fill the compartment. There is also a level plug in the same area. Remove the level plug and fill until oil begins to run out of the level plug hole.
