Did UTI"s have standard exhaust as a U? Are the hoods the same? What makes the UTI different besides heavier?

I would say exhaust could be either way as many were used with loaders. I have several and ones with down under exhaust have knockout in hood. The hoods maybe the same with variations depending on year and equipment. Tractors with reversers had a longer hood for example. I also have one with the same front axle as UDLX but most have the heavy duty 10,000 # front axle with 20 inch truck tires. Besides brake location rear axle housing looks heavier. I have UTI manuals if you need specific information. Good luck

My '46 UTI is supposed to have the down under exhaust, but Grandpa took it off & put a regular U manifold on it to lessen the chance of catching the field on fire when he combined oats. I would guess he just cut a hole in the hood for the upright muffler. A couple differences from a UTS is smaller rear tires, a lot of UTS's have 38" tires & mine has 28", the brakes are inside the rear wheel casting on the UTI's rather than up on the differential like the UTU & UTS. Most UTI's also have a heavy duty front axle & truck tires, but mine has the same axle as a UDLX & that's the way it came from the factory because at a show one time someone told Dad that was the wrong front end on it, but Dad said they didnt change it & also knew the guys that had it before Grandpa got it. I should have some pic's of mine on a floppy disk if you want me to email them.

I have recently finished restoring a 1948 UTS. During this process, I obtained a couple of service manuals and a parts manual. From memory in reviewing those manuals, the biggest difference was the front axle and wheels. The axle assembly was different than my UTS. I believe it is heavier with larger front wheels/tires.

I am not sure about the hood and exhaust. If you wish, e-mail me and I will respond after I review the manuals again.
