Our U has a combination intake/exhaust manifold on it and one of the old U's has a two piece manifold with the intake and exhaust seperate. Any advantage ot disadvantage to the seperate manifolds?? Our one piece manifold needs a lot of help( cracked and rusted out). Wondering if we would lose any horsepower with seperate manifolds ??? I know I am a pain but all the old Minnie guys are gone and there is no one locally to ask.
thanks for a great forum

Richard, I'm assuming its on gasoline. If its on Kerosene, you need the original style with the heat chamber/baffle in it.
I've seen Us with at least 3 different manifolds. Some pullers run an Lp manifold. This completetly separates the intake and exhaust. But they can frost the carb/intake runner in certain high humidity/temperature conditions.

Then there is the 5star style with a steel plate that bolts between the intake and exhaust. The steel plate between intake and exhaust will transfer enough heat the intake won't frost too badly.

The last style has the intake and exhaust cast together with a web cast between them. As far as I know any of these can be made to work with the stock carburetor and governor link. (Certain combinations may require a different length governor rod-Like if the tractor has a 403 in it.) and some guys think the 2 pc or late 1 pc. flow better than the old heat-chamber style.
