zk hydraulic power lift

Hi there! Just purchased a 1941 RTU with zk hydraulic power lift. I realize it runs off the engines oil pressure. I haven't got the tractor to fire yet (no spark) but when I get the engine to crank over, oil begins to ooze out of the hydraulic lift. Does anyone know of someone who has either had a tractor equipped with the zk, or has seen one. There is a "dial" up near the instrument panel which contains the words up, down, safety and neutral. Where should I be setting these controls to prevent oil from oozing out....also, are there any wires necessary to be hooked up....ground, etc...? I have plenty of more questions, but this is the one erking me as of now. Thanks a ton. Mike McMurray from NH.....

I've got an RTU with the system you're looking at. Mine leaks around the shaft of the one-way cylinder that lifts the cultivater, not much, but if it's on a clean floor, it'd look bad. That seems to be the nature of the beast. Neutral should minimize the leaking, a cylinder rebuild will eliminate it for awhile. I use mine to cultivate about 2 acres of corn and it doesn't lose enough engine oil in a season to add any, just makes a messy looking cylinder. ALSO Mike, when I start it, the cult raises even though it's set on neutral. Sometimes there are manuals for this lift on Ebay, my scanner is down or I could send some of the manual/parts list. It shouldn't leak in the Neutral position. there must be something wrong with it. Until you get it running, try plugging off the inlet. Its the 3/8" tube coming out of the side cover and going in the ZK lift pump. Just remove the elbow in the side cover and screw in a plug. (you can also remove the lift pump, but then you have to cover the hole in the side cover And plug the hole where the return goes. I think its a drilled bolt.)
