This post is to inform all interested in a problem I had last year with my M670-LP. It all of a sudden got hot under the hood and flames were rolling out from under both sides. Lucky I only had the vapor on at the time but it still got hot reaching in to shut off the Vapor Valve. My tractor has a piece of rubber flex hose connecting the LP Gas Filter and the Vaporizer and it is within 6 inches of the exhaust manafold. I guess due to heat and old age this hose ruptured and was letting propane vapors spray on the exhaust manafold, which immeadiately caught fire. I don't know how big a torch I would have had If the liquid had been on. I don't know what other models have rubber flex hoses near the engine but you may want to check yours. I am going to build a heat shield to mount between the exhaust manafold and sensitive hoses to prevent some of the heat damage. Still 40+ year old hoses need to be checked. Bryce

YOu might want to replace that rubber flex hose with copper and flare fittings.

I went to my local hydraulics shop and had a new hose built. Currently it has several layers of Aluminum foil wrapped around it. I plan on building a heat shield for that area whenever I get my plasma cutter opeational. Looks like I can use the vaporizer mounting bolts to secure it.

Thanks for that post. We have to be careful around these nearly 40 year old tractors.

It reminds me of the time a bird nest next to the exhaust manifold in one of the 'project' tractors caught fire. Only took a few minutes running time to ignite. And of course its in a shed next to my shop and the battery is dead. (I switched it of when I saw smoke.) It was hard to put out with a fire extinguisher too.
