I have a MF 97 diesel with a cooling system problem. Every little while it spews antifreeze out the radiator cap. Someone told me it needs the water pump rebuilt. The water pump does not leak but the shaft is lose. Can this be the problem or do I have something more serious wrong?

Removed the thermostats and found that some one had welded the holes shut!

I checked with Agco, NAPA, and CarQuest and the gaskets are not available.

I would repair that water pump and check the thermostats. If the thermostats are not drilled, drill them. With those two things attended to, you should be OK. My 97 will still spit out a little once in a while during the warm up period; that's just the way it is.

I had a similar problem with my ZA, did the same thing. I believe i ended up drilling a small hole in the thermostat. It allows more circulation. Not sure if that is your problem, but might be a place to check.
