I have a few questions that may sound stupid to the veteran MM collectors. I am a 2 cylinder collector, but I just got a good deal on a MM Z. It"s too soon to tell you the serial #, but I am 99% sure that it is a straight Z.(not ZA,ZTU,etc)I am wondering how I tell which voltage electrical system it has. The man i bought it from told me that it didn"t have a battery because his father was too cheap to buy one, so he would take it out of his pickup and go back and forth. Being that he used his truck battery, I assumed it was a 12 volt system. I hooked up a 12 volt for (+) ground and the starter seemed to work fine and the tractor started and ran, but I"m cooking the coil. I also am curious how many CCA the correct battery is supposed to have. I will be looking for a good parts source for points, condenser, carb kit, etc. And, finally, I was curious if MM, or farm hand or any body else ever made a loader to fit the Z. Thank you for any feed back.

Our 1948 Z (ZAU) was originally a 6 volt system. We have since converted it using a GM alternator to 12. We used the original starter without modification it just spins faster and we don't crank it for long periods.

I would have to guess that your tractor is a 6 volt. I've seen a loader with a trip bucket mounted on a Z, but no idea whose make it was.

Sorry can't help with that question.
