I recently bought an RT Industrial out of Southern Arizona. It came to NW Iowa in late February and sat on my trailer for a week and a half when the weather was warm, and didn't leak a drop. However when the normally cold weather returned, it started leaking rear end grease out the hole in the casting just behind the clutch. Yes, I believe it has water in the rear end and may have pushed out a seal when it froze. Question is, is this a fair diagnois? Or is this bigger trouble? Does this little gem need to be split to fix? My experience is in the Olivers, and it is fairly common for the Ollies to get the rear end wet enough to stick the rear end, but never have seen it break the casting.

Ron, There is a inspection cover on the left side of the clutch housing. Under the clutch shaft there is a cover at the front of the transmission
sort of domed shaped. If there was a lot of water in the transmission this cover can be pushed out. You should be able to see it. I don"t know if you can put it back in place without spliting the engine, but I don"t think any damage was done unless the tractor sat for a long time with water in the transmission. this happen to one RTI that I have

1st, check the level of the fluid in the rearend/trans, 2nd, if it's over full, drain out enough to be correct, if it has water as most do, change the fluid. I bought a Big Mo 400 that sprayed trans grease thru every opening when running, found out the guy took out the fill plug on the trans tower, filled it to the top with 90 weight, drained 10+ gallons to get it down to the correct level, took it out on the road, put it in 5th and drove until the clutch dried out enough to use it for a loader and pull 3x14" plow. NEVER know how much or little the guy before you knew!!

If that is the RTI that was listed on e-bay, I believe it is a RTI-M. Someone had removed all of the plates but the lifting instruction plate under the fuel tank. The tractor still had the lifting loops as well. It was a sweet looking little tractor. Good luck with it. I would have bid but my back yard is already pretty full of MMs.

As for your oil leak, it could be transmission or engine oil. I have never heard of the transmission seals being pushed out of an MM due to freezing but there is a first for everything. I am thinking you'll need to split it to see for certain. There should be at least one cover you can remove from the side of the tranny and look into the clutch cavity. I believe the cover will be on the left hand-side.

No doubt about it.....it is Transmission/Rear end lube. Crankcase oil is easily recognised.
