Hi guys, I have a 1958 M.M. 5 star with the 283E engine. I am going to take the blocks and 4232 heads off a 336 irrigation engine, and put them on the 5 star. My question is does the 283 cam have the same lift and duration as the 336 cam? I dont have any of the cams out yet so don't know the part numbers of them. If I can get by with leaving the 283 cam in would save tearing it down, but want the correct duration for the bigger cubes. Any one know? Thanks.

SOUNDS GOOD ADDING A G CRANK (403) BUT THAT WOULD GIVE IT ONE INCH MORE STROCK. HOW WOULD THAT WORK WITH 336 BLOCKS? I have some 403 cranks.

Call Welters they have some pistons that will make it work.

The cam in the 283 should work ok. The lift and duration is almost same.I would sugest that you cut the ring grove out at the top of cylinder. When you move cylinders and pistons the top ring may strike ridge and cause damage to pistons and rod inserts.
