UB alternater

I bought a UB with an alternater on it, and when I finally got it running and hooked the alternater back up to the amp guage, it would show discharge with the tractor off. When I had the tractor running it fell dead over to show full charge on a fully charged and good battery. I haven't bench checked it yet but any other advise, or maybe I had it wired wrong?

The contacts in your voltage regulator are stuck!

It sounds like there is a short to ground. check your wiring, both connetions and maybe a bad spot on wire itself

An alternator shouldn't show a full charge on the
gauge for more than a few seconds. If it was mine
I think I would take it to somebody that works on
starters and alternators and have them run a check
on it.
As for the discharge when not running, the
alternator must still be getting field current.
This will drain a good battery in a few hours.
Check and see if there is any provision to turn
this current off when the engine is not running.
Let us know how you make out.
