Hi, Everybody!
I have a 1937 Model JT with the original motor. I took the carb off to have it rebuilt. The mechanic who was going to do it said that the carb had been poorly repaired a number of times, and, in fact, was too far gone to work with. My question is, can anyone tell me what brand and model of carb should go on this tractor, and secondly, where I might find one? I haven't as of yet gotten a parts book, although I do plan to locate one of those also.
Thanks in advance!!
Rich

Thanks for the reply. Mine was broken and brazed also. I was wondering whether a Marvel-Schebler carb like from an R or Z could be made to work. Otherwise, there are some swap meets coming up. If I can find out the model no.of the Zenith, I can look for one there.

In my parts book the MM part number for the carb is JE5106A. In the description it is a zenith 124 1/2 TO.

You might want to search the archives, I know I asked some questions on this forum about it at the time. (2-3 years ago.) Also, many of the serious MM collectors are at their winter show this weekend, so check your post again in a few days.

From experience, the JT engine will run on a late Z Marvel/Schebler TSX97 carburetor. I had one on my J before I got my Case carburetor going. I made a metal tab that bolted to the throttle shaft and reached up with a hole where the JT throttle link needed to hook on.

As I recall it had about the same idle problems that the Zenith on it now does. It tends to skip a bit.

One big problem is that the inlet of the TSX97 carburetor is only about 2-1/2 inches from the back of the governor, and how do you hook up to the intake pipe from the air cleaner? The JT used a special casting on the carburetor inlet to get around this.

I can tell you that the correct carburetor for your J is a Zenith, but I don't know what model.
It does use the same repair kit that fits a C or D series Case with a 7124 carb.
(I am running a 7124 carb on my J but it has the original carburetor's venturi, throttle shaft, and all the jets. It took considerable modification to fit as the top castings are a bit different. My original carb. was broken and brazed together around the air horn.)

Thanks, Kelvin, for the info. I'll have to start looking for one of those carbs. I have a Marvel Schebler which I think came off a ZA. I may try and get that to work till I can find the right one. The inlet on it(where the butterfly is)is smaller than on the Zenith. I'm assuming that could affect how it runs?
