I'm helping a friend with some valve problems on a G 900. When we got a head off, we found some cracks in the head around the valve ports and the energy cell ports. None seem to travel all the way to the seats. Is this a problem? is this normal to find these on this engine? do we need to worry?

I have not done too many Moline heads with the Lanova combustion chamber(energy cells) I have done mostly Oliver and Cockshutt. I did have to pin one set. On the Oliver and the Cockshutt there is no water between the deck of the head and the passage for both the injector and the energy cell. Therefore those cracks do not hurt any thing. However the best thing to do is have a good shop that knows what they are doing pressure test the heads. On the Oliver board I always tell them when they ask that question I tell them I would worry if the head was not cracked. Questions find me on the hpoca form and send me a pm. J. By the way do you have a casting number? I have a G-1000 head somewhere I could look at to compare.
