Can anyone tell me the difference between a 403 power unit crankcase and a GB crankcase? I plan on making a puller and wondered what benefit it would be to go with a GB over a 403? Thanks

Use a 5 Star or later crankcase and get rid of the set screw starter. Every thing will fit and you cand even drill the crancase for the GB oil filter.

Do not use a 5 star or M5 crankcase they are the weakest of any of the 4 cyl they would break in stock applications. If you want to update use the 670 super crankcase it is the strongest and easiest to get the gear reduction starter for.

Early 403 engines have 1/2 inch studs in the center and rear main the GB crank case has 9/16 studs, dowl pinned maincaps and the gov hole area is heavier. It depends on how far you are pushing the engine if you are building a fairly large cube engine i would use the GB style crankcase. Late 403 power units have the same crankcase i believe it is a 10A9980 or 9890

I plan on a possible 5.5x6.5 motor.
