I am working on a 1948 UTS. I need to find engine overhaul parts, including rings, rod bearings and many gaskets. I have checked with my usual parts source, and was given a total price of nearly $1,000. Does anyone know of parts sources at a more reasonable cost? It is the 283-A4 engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in NC and there are no deals on parts down here. $1000 is not out of line for NC prices.

I spent about $2000 on a U in '97 before i got to hear it run. Just grinding the crank ran $212 without the bearings.

I also spent about the same amount on a girlfriend that year. . .

I still have the tractor.

Thanks, Kelvin. Just a little sticker shock when I checked on the prices. They also included some other parts that I had ordered, so the engine parts were about $800. I'll bite the bullet and go ahead and order. Ever hear about the "bushel basket" theory? I guess I just need another bushel basket.

Gary,
Check around on pricing. Not all AGCO dealers have the same prices. I've heard vendor "B" in MN has high prices. I've had good luck with Welter's in MO and what I thought were fair prices.
