Reuse head gaskets

Is it possible to reuse a single block U head gasket? If a guy was careful on removeall can it be coated with something and reinsalled?
It is for an early U which has 5.1 compression with hc head. If not where is the most reasonable place to buy one? I found one at one place it was 93$.

Look around the cylinder sealing rings. I had a used gasket that looked perfect, but failed to notice that one of the rings had a split in it. It leaked through the inside of the gasket & was spitting water to the outside. I've reused gaskets before on different motors & had good luck doing so, but just not this one. I also spray them down with a good covering of copper coat.

Not a good thing to do but I have done it before with the metal type gaskets. If it is a metal type you can put in it an oven, watch out for your wife and a fry pan. Heat it up to around 500 degrees and then let it cool slowly. That causes it to expaned some and works better then if you just remove it and then put it back on. Of course coopercoat etc should also be used.

The best reccommendation is to get a new head gasket. But:

Assuming you are talking stock engine, not a high compression puller:

Its been done before. I've been told to coat the gasket with coppercoat or something similar. I've also been told to torque the studs about 5# more than the reccommendation. (Late 206's and 220s the studs are already taking about all I think they can stand as I have stripped the nuts one time.)

What I've actually done is to dope around the water holes with Permatex #2. And torque to spec. And its working so far, but I only show my tractors and don't expect a lot of hard work from them.

OH-I also run a bead of permatex around the outside edge of the gasket. It'll leak on the pushrod side of the head if you don't.
