I would like to put a sinlge cast head off of an old U on my KTA. I was wondering if I will run into any glitches with compression after making the switch? The U's head is a High Compression head while the KTA I believe, is not, as it can burn kerosene and gas. Here's the casting numbers. Any help would be great.

New Head (Model U)
KE 282D

Old Head (Model KTA)
KE 282

The LP head would have a larger combustion chamber therefore lower compression ratio.
Will probably run on petrol but have fewer horses.

I think if you go to the LP head you might have to change push rods.

Is there an easy way to tell if it's an LP head I purchased or if it's simply gas?

You should have no problem whatsoever. H-C gas heads back then were only about 5.5:1 ratio approx. Even if you found a rare 1940s single cast LP head, it would be just fine on pump gas these days. You might gain a little power.

I've never seen an LP head but I suppose the part number would have a different letter after it. I'll ask around and find out what a gas or LP calls for.
