I am still considering moving the crank shaft on my 403 back one tooth. Some have told me it not a good idea and others have said it will improve the lugging power. Does anyone have dyno results that will help me? I have a spare U cam shaft with a gear on it and I have expermented with it. The gear on it probably will not come off with out some heat.

Yes it will help, but you won't necessarily see the difference on the dyno. Reason being is it won't affect hp as much as it does torque. Which is what you need for pulling. I understand some of the power units used different cams. These usually help. Hope this helps.

The power units have the same cams as the tractor motors. Check your parts book.

I have dyno a U before and after moving the cam 1 tooth. I gained about 5 hp at rated RPM and 12 more HP at 950 RPM.

Just think what you would have gained if you had the right cam!

Jerry:
They should be the same cam from a 283 to a 403CI. Part number KE451G shaft with a 70 tooth gear - Part number KE452B gear. Gears are also the same. Of course you may have had your shaft re-ground. Can't give you and solid dyno test, but if I recall there has been discussion on this before. Look in archives...deadeye
