ok fellas, first off i want to tell you we are poor.. lol and poor people have poor ways.. second is we have the stuff and might as well use it.. we own a m5 gasser.. good reliable tractor, but it uses oil something terrible, and we know it has a tooth chiped off a gear somewhere in the rear end/ transmission area. i dont know the serial number at the moment and its about 30 minutes away at the moment. i know its one of the earlier M5"s, we bought another m5 that was locked up from a overhaul and setting directly.. and its been locked up for a while. it is one of the later models, and the heads were reworked, thats the main reason we bought it beacuse we think the valve guides are the main problem with our old one. since then i was thinking,, the newer m5 has a 3 point hitch, and was going to put it on the old one.. but the hydro pumps wont interchange. i want to know,, can i split the two and put the running engine (i am planning on overhauling it and putting the good heads on it) on the rear end of the newer m5 and have a good rear end and 3 point or were there other changes in the bell housing area also?? i know without serial numbers no one can guarantee me but im wondering what the chances are.i also understand most men will think this is a complete waste of time,, again poor people have poor ways.

You should not encounter any major problems swapping the rear half of the tractors. You will likely have to use the steering lines and maybe the steering unit from the newer one so everything fits together properly.
You might want to check the torque in the newer one before you start to make sure that it is OK. Since it doesn't run, try to pull it backward in high gear, high range with the main clutch disengaged. If the torque prevents the wheels from turning, it is likely OK.
