With the hood & fuel tank off an old Jet 3, I guess now is better than later to re-wire the whole she-bang. What gauge wire is recommended for lights, ignition, &c. on this 12v system? Thanks!

Curt's suggestions are fine unless you might ever change to an alternator. If that is a possibility then I would use 10 Ga for the charging system & 14 for the lighting & ignition. Alternators generally charge at a rate greater than generators.

Chuck, I recommend #12 from "A" on generator to "Gen" on the voltage regulator and from the "Bat" on the regulator to the amp gauge and from the amp gauge to the starter switch, or in other words, on the charging system. #14 will be sufficient for the rest of it; you could probably cut down to #16 on the power to the coil. That's a nice thing about 12 volts, small wires work. That's MY suggestion only, based on nothing but experience.
