The PTO unit WILL fit. You only need the longer shaft that is in the rear end.

SO then the answer is ONLY HALF CORRECT! Yes you are correct but the outer housing will work only if you have the inner shaft out of the U. Other wise it is useless. Mind set of though shaft PTO's.
