What is the difference between a 4 Star and a 4 Star Super. A good friend of mine has found one in So. IL. I am pretty confident that it is a plain 4 Star but am interested in knowing what the difference is. The tractors SN is 16600255. Also what color is this tractor supposed to be? I have seen them in the M5 gold color and some in the brighter color of yellow more like a 602. Someone has repainted this long ago and painted it energy yellow and put a short minneapolis Moline decal on the side (similar to a 64-65 Jet 3. Also were these tractors very common with power adjust rear wheels? This one has them but one has a patch on it. If you haven't been able to tell we are going to try to ressurect this tractor from the dead, but need to get our ducks in a row first. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think you all are right. It must be a non super with power adjust rear wheels. I think we are going to need a wide front for it eventually too, if any one knows of something. Thanks for all the info.

Luke,
I did some more research. Price list shows power adjust rear rims were optional on all 4 Stars. Is it currently a wide front but all busted up or do you want to switch to a wide front? I'm thinking that a 445 has the same wide front but not certain.

Luke,
The 4 Star and 4 Star Super used the same serial #s. The one you are looking at is a 1959 model. The supers had power adjust rear rims, deluxe wrap over fenders like M5 instead of the base 4 Star clamshell fenders like a 445. The color should be dark prairie gold sheet metal and metallic bronze castings. It should have the stacked Minneapolis Moline decal on the hood sides and a large 4 inside a star decal on each front upper corner. The supers will have super on the bottom of the 4 inside a star decal. I have an early 1959 4 Star Super gas wf and it's a very nice machine for just about any job. It has power adjust rears, deluxe fenders, speedo and tach, chrome "V" nose emblem and strip running down hood. Some of these details may be common with the regular 4 Star.

This tractor has what I would consider the shorter fenders, but has power adjust rear wheels. There is no chrome anywhere on the tractor. The only thing is the MM emblem between the lights on the grill. The tractor doesnt have a tach on it either. I am still wondering if its a super or not. The 4-star decal has been painted over a long time ago.

Luke, Brain is dead on with the info. of the 4 stars vs 4 star supers. He is really sharp on his details and information and knows what he talks about with minnies in general. Supers all had a chrome "Vee" that sat on top of the hood at the very front and a chrome strip down the center. That's also why Spec-casy compamy making the 4 star super toy tractors is also wrong in calling them a super even though they have the fenders that go over ther rear tires. I really don't want to rain on your parade about it being a super. But with the information you have provided I would say it is not. Besides that about the chome on the hood, the hood would have had holes in the top where it was mounted. If your still not convinced you can take spray paint remover and give the hood a quick blast and wipe to expose the decal that is there and take a look. I too live in southern Illinois. Good luck with it either way and have fun.
