Hello; Does anyone have any information on a G MM? I have a 52 and am looking for some facts on this tractor. Is the G all by itself? Were all of them wide frt? Can"t find much on this tractor. Thanks Bob

Guys...Thanks so much for all the info!! I have learned a lot. I did work with 6 guys who worked at the Lake st plant, and the Hopkins plant. But, I think I've found out more stuff here!! Again, thanks to everyone, and for the MM web page!

I have one that I pull with. Weigh it right and get the right tire with the proper inflation and you have a pretty consistant winner in stock condition.

Great minds think alike. Staring at a computer all day has a tendency to keep your typing skills sharp. I'm sure glad for spell check though as some times my mind is going much faster than my fingers.

Bob, Your '52 G would actually be a GTB( I have a '51) All G series tractor were wide front end as they were all a standard version and did not have adjustable front ends. The 4 5/8" X 6", 403.2 cubic inch engine put out a maximum of 55.94 on the belt and 39.2 drawbar hp. in the April 21 to May 16 Nebraska test #437 conducted in 1950. It produced a maxium drawbar pull of 6,410 lb at a base weight of 7,230 with 1,777 pounds added to each rear wheel. The engine rated RPM is 1,100. Before the GTB was a GT, GTA and following were GB's and GBD's. Also the G704, 705, 706, 707, 708 followed plus some more latter ones. Hope this gives you some helpful information. Roger

Bob,
Technically a 52 G is a model GTB. They were made from 47-54. They replaced the GTA model(42-47) and were replaced by the GB (55-59). All had the 403 gas engine and standard wheatland fixed wide front axle. The GTB engine was similar in design to the U series engines and many parts were shared between these engines. The bore and stroke was larger at 4-5/8x6 vs the U at 4-1/4x5. The GTB has a straight front axle where as the GB has an arched front axle. GTB's came with clamshell fenders where the GB typically came with a full crown wrap over type fender.

There are several good books out that give more info on these tractors. Check out www.minneapolis-moline.com for more specific info too. There is a very good post there right now on the G series of tractors.

I have seen GTB's both ways with the fender thing. Clams or wrap around's. I owned a GTB which came out of Canada with wrap around fender's on it. I know that they also had clam shells like the "U's" have. GTA's, GTB's, and GTC- LP's were all four cylinder engines. I guess they were all the Wheatland style if that helps describe this unknown tractor. Name plate on the right of the clutch housing will ptobably tell you what you have. Plate will be in area of where the belt pulley is or would have been.....deadeye

I can believe there are quite a few out there that were switched. The clamshells didn't provide much dust protection. The parts book that I have only shows clamshells. Not a very smart move on Moline's part. The GT and GTA had full wrap around fenders. I'm guessing they wanted a styled look on the GTB and the old GTA fenders didn't fit the bill. So they grabbed a set of U fenders and slapped them on.

I think you are right or they just put on whatever happen to be handy. It must have been sort of a mix and match in the factories back then. If it fit, WEAR IT....deadeye
