Jet 3 Super Hydraulics

I need some help folks. I have a 1969 Jet 3 Super with Tele-flo Hydraulics that runs the three point and the loader. A couple of years back one of the hydraulic lever springs broke so, like a dumby, I tried fixing it myself. What a mistake. So after pulling the whole assembly of the tractor, casting and all, I took it to a local fella who at one time was an Oliver dealer. He had never fixed one before but managed to get it back together and working....sort of. The three-point now maintain a load in the raised position and the "float" position does not work. I believe the depth lever is all messed up. He replaced the ATF fluid that I had in it and put in "universal hydraulic oil" because he said it would work better. The response of the loader, which is an L-800 factory loader, is very slooow. The steering is hard making the tractor a real dog. I really like this tractor and have sunk alot of money into it with a new TA and rebuilt engine but I've gotten to hate it recently. What do I need to do to fix it and how do I get all of the hydraulic fluid out of the system so that I don't contaminate the ATF. Thanks.

You didn't say if any of the problems improve when the oil gets warm. If the heavier oil is the problem, at least the steering response should improve when the oil gets warm. If it doesn't, check the priority valve in the casting bolted to the rear of the hydraulic pump for a piece of dirt or scoring causing it to stick. It supplies the first ~1.8 gpm to the steering system.

What do you mean by the float position doesn't work?

When a spring is broken on one of the remote levers, they can be repalced by cutting the old one with a grinder to remove it and threading a new one on from the outer end starting with the 3 point lever. The tab on the bottom of the lever will need to be straightened a little until you get the new spring in place. you will also need to remove the stud under the handles while moving or installing the springs. If the inside spring is broken, move the center lever spring over to the inside lever then thread the new one onto the center lever. Welters used to have available a different type of centering device that bolts on instead of the original springs.

Hi, I don't have a jet 3 super but I am familier with the U302 system. If this was my problem, I'd take it to a mechanic who is familier with MM hydraulics and get it done right. These tractors are some of the handiest ever made. I don't think the oil is the problem-I have used "hydraulic oil, hytran, quik lift, ect." That is what is supposed to be used and they all work for me. Could the filter be plugged? something seems to be restricting the flow.
