I have an intermittant miss I cannot seem to get rid of in my Diesel G707, I rebuilt the engine, (worn out)reconditioned the valves and seats, installed new nozzle tips and set the cracking pressure to 2000psi. Timing is set at factory spec of 11 degrees BTC, plus I installed a new camshaft when I rebuilt it. The valves are adjusted to factory spec's., but I cannot get rid of the miss. It clears up when the engine is totally warm, but the miss will rear its ugly head from time to time even after its warm. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try a few gallons of kerosene in the fuel tank. We got a bum batch of fuel one time and that cured the problem. Ed.

I farmed 14 years with a G 707 Diesel and a G 705 Diesel. They both missed or "slobbered" at an idle. Rebuilt injectors and pump never fixed it. I never worried about it since both of them would outpull a JD 4020. I had both tractors out for plow days this year and they still slobber at an idle, just like in the good ole days.

I too have learned to live with it. I have a 97 Massey that purrs - when warmed up - and a 705 that runs strong but fools around when not under load or warmed up good. I can offer no advice as I have tried everything myself. I know the pump on the 705 needs work but I'll get by for now. Meantime, I just enjoy the big brutes and if they stumble, smoke and carry on, well that's a Minnie.

It is a strong runner, but I also have a Massey 97 (G705) that runs perfect, so I know there is something wrong and its driving me nuts!

Tom,
Did you clean the power cells in the heads? Or did you have the heads tanked to remove all the carbon? I wonder if a bad camshaft would cause a miss like you describe. Have you checked the cranking compression across all cylinders?

I rebuilt and bored out the engine .020 over, and installed a new cam. The only thing I can think of is I have the cam a tooth off. There was no markings on the cam when I dissassembled the timing train, and I didnt notice this until I began to reassemble it. I took my best educated judgement on the timing and went for it. I can advance the timing and get the miss better at the pump, but it never goes away.
