I am checking out a Delco Distrubitor and need some help. How much side to side wandering is within tolerance. This one also has 3/16 play in the space between the shaft collar and the bottom of the housing. Should I be adding a washer to take up the end play?

check point gap on all lobes...if it stays the same you might get away with some side play but if you can see side to side movement its time to rebush or find another distributor...up and down play is pretty common...gravity seems to keep them down.

I don't think you want much side play at all. Too much wander there and it'll screw up the timing.
3/16" end play seems a lot too. You gotta check where the coupling needs to be when its mounted though. You don't want to put a 3/16" shim on the shaft if you can't mount it afterwards.
