Hello:

I am new to these Gold tractors. I just traded into a 1957 MM 5 Star Universal Diesel Widefront. Its a nice machine, but unfortunatly its a bareback. I found a local guy parting out a 4 Star with a 3 point setup that I can get relativly cheap. Will this setup from the 4 Star fit my 5 Star? I can manage to do some adapting, but dont want to try to fit something that will be totally different. Thanks for any help!

If the 4 Star is an early one with the internal plumbing, the resevoir, control valves, lift arms and pump will fit without modification.

If the 4 Star is a late one with external plumbing, all the above parts will fit but some of the lines may need to be modified to fit correctly.

You will have to find the hitch support and mount for the lower lift arms from a 5 Star, M5 or M602.

You will need the main resevoir and rockshaft if your 5 star don't have it. This unit will not interchange from 4 to 5 star.

You have to be a little careful here. 1st, the 4 Star was a transitional tractor, there were 2 totally different 3 pt.hyds. used on "4 Star series", the early units were similar to the 5 Star. 2nd, the rear end housing on the 4 Star is 3/4" narrower overall at the mtg. point of the 3 pt arms support. 3rd, the support on the 5 Star is basically from the bottom with no holes in the housing side for the smaller tractor supports, while the 4 Star is basically from the sides. Better find what you need, call 920 295 3278 for more info, Dale

I have the arms, links, and the lower arms off a 5 Star on my Brown Jet. The only thing that needs machine work is the bottom plate where the lower links attach, the mounting holes will have to redrilled to accomodate the smaller rearend pattern of the 4 star, the upright links may be too short, my Jet goes nearly to the ground when lowered, the others I have do not. Very workable transplant, if you're in the NE Illinois area, I'd trade the correct arms and stuff for the 5 Star. John
