What are the differences between a U and a UTU if any, and what is the bore and stroke and cubic inches of the U. Taking my first moline apart and trying to find out a little about them. Thanks for any help, Ken.

Ken,
A U and UTU are the same tractor. UTU stands for "U" "T"ractor w/ "U"niversal front end (2 wheels closely spaced). Early serial # tags were stamped UTU, UTS, UTN, etc. depending on their front end. Later models were just stamped U. Engines in all U series were 4-1/4" bore x 5" stroke for 283 cubic inches displacement. Engines up through 1947 were mono block type engines meaning all 4 cylinders shared a common cylinder block assy and a one piece head. After 1947 they switched to a split block engine where the cylinders were cast in pairs and there were 2 seperate heads.
