As far as I know, MM never used a neutral start switch on any of the cast iron shift towers which is what I'm pretty sure the 602 has.

The first aluminum towers have an 'S' postion for start and the switch was run by the hifter rail & mounted at the front of the tower by the retaining bolts.

The later tractors have a blank square where the "S" position was on the early ones. The is no start position but the safety switch is operated by the clutch pedal being depressed.

It seems that neither type lasted very long or at least got out of adjustment and were bypassed in years past since very few of them still work.

On many diesels, the "clutch must be depressed to start" switches were quickly bypassed, because you needed to stand beside the tractor to be able to reach back and operate the starter, while reaching forward to spray the ether. Nobody had enough hands to also depress the clutch at the same time. And it wasn't really dangerous, because there is no known instance of an old Moline or Oliver diesel starting so quickly that it would run over you- you always had time to release the starter button, look around sheepishly to see if anyone was watching, and then take it out of gear before trying again.

Jerry,
I'm not sure about the M602 but the M5 didn't have one and the M670 did. Even if it did have one they're quite easy to bypass. If your M602 has one look in front of the shifter lever. It should be mounted on the front flange of the shifter tower on top of the transmission. It reads off of a flat spot on 3rd gear shifter fork shaft. If it came with a safety switch your shift pattern should have an "S" in the lower middle of it's shift pattern. All of my Molines had been bypassed before I acquired them.
