I am building a pulling tractor and am looking for a set of 6, 585 diesel pistons. Does anyone have any good used ones that they want to sell? Also, where can you buy these new other than from a dealer? I checked in a sealed power catalog and it said not available. I would appreciate any information.

Thanks,

Jim Pollock

You can have a custon Billet Aluminum piston made in the 250.00 each range. Would be lighter and much stronger than the cast 585 pistons. They are very heavy and wouldnt like high RPM well. They ,the OE 585 also have a deep pocket for the cumbustion chamber. Not suited for a multiple spay pattern injection nozzle. The material in the 585 piston has a bad expansion rate also. Go custom, coat with ceramic or nitride for heat resistance. Good luck,Bernie.

I was informed recently there are pistons from a big Deere diesel that will work.

I overhauled my WHITE 2-150, 5 years ago. I got everything new from M M Wendle Everett phone # 740-922-3335. Used, I might have a set of pistons 20 thouenths oversized. But I just bought another OLIVER 2155 and the motor is rusted fast, I might need them for that I will not sell them. I also pull an OLIVER 2155, my phone # is 570-374-4292.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I am building an 1800 oliver but it will have a hercules 478 engine like the ones in the oliver 2150. The hercules has 4 9/16 pistons but I want to take out the sleeves and run 4 3/4 pistons right in the block. I know a few people who have done this. The one guy told me that he used MM pistons. I have checked into using JD pistons but the pistons are about 3/16 too short from the wrist pin center to the top. I was hoping MM pistons were taller. I know that the guy that I spoke of Also used JD rods so maybe that's how he made up the difference.

Could I possibly get one of you guys to measure a 585 piston from the pin center to the top. If they are the same as JD, I will check into getting JD rods. I can get the JD pistons new for $104.00 each.

Thanks,

Jim Pollock
