I am going to overhaul my 1952 U MM this winter. It has 4209 heads on it now. I will be switching to 4210. How much of a hp. increase can I expect from this? I'd like to use it for pulling in stock antique class next summer. When I used it about 4 yrs. ago for pulling it didn't really have enough hp. for the fast first gear they seem to have. It was ok in the 5500 but it sometimes ran short of power in the 6500. I was told one time that 1947 and older U MM's had a slower first gear in them and that the shift pattern was different than the later ones. Is this true? If so, how much slower is the first gear?

I have one with m5 blocks and manifold with 4210 the other is still 4.25 bore with pop up pistons and 4206 heads and m5 manifolds they both pull well.4206 heads and m5 lp manifolds with the governor reworked would help out on power.

If you want more guts, you could bore your blocks out to 4.375. That in combination with the 4210 heads should give you some poop for most normal stock pulls in 6500#. Another option is putting on a set of M5 pistons and blocks. We are doing this on a UTU now. As for the gears, the old red nose UTS from the 30s had a different ring and pinion. Their shift pattern was also different. I'm not sure about different tranny gears through the later years of the UTU.
