What Would Make The Best Loader Tractor?

I was told MM's weren't good for a loader tractor. Was told IH/Farmall's were better.

Another tractor that i'm thinking of is a 1--5 series MF (i.e. 1085-1105-1135). Would have a cab for winter (could be used for snowblowing), and wouldn't have to take the duals off our 2745 for snowblowing and planting. I sure loved the way that the 1155 ran and I liked the looks and cab features better than our 2745. I liked the trans better as well as it didn't have the troublesome 3x multipower. I think i'd like something with a cab. Also it seems the I6's heat up better than the V8's (and start better), so it would be a better tractor to run in the winter.

I think my U had a loader on it once as the cultivator brackets were torched off a bit and new brackets were welded on above them. It would seem like they would have decent hydraulics, but be awkward without foot clutch and power steering.

I think the Jet Stars are great, but the later pumps like a Jet Star 2 were much much better. I feel that the clutch on my Jet 2 works excellent. It just seems to fit and feel right. I can ease in to something very smoothly unlike older models. FWA would be good if your turning radius was ok. Newer Deere models turn sharp and make excellent FWA loaders. I believe a M670 diesel was about 75 h.p. I had one and am looking at a Super right now. Dad used a UTU to clean barns as a child. It was not even close to todays machines, but as with most things, you learn tricks to get the job done quick as possible. Here is a pic of my Jet 2. Not pretty, but oooh so very handy.

Do you think something of the M series would be too big? Gosh, that gives a broad range now that I think of it. It would be nice for a guy to have two-three loaders. One of the smaller variety like the 445 or JS2, then something larger when you need the weight and HP. What would you think of a UB or M602 with loader? I had a UB that had loader brackets and a Char-Lynn PS unit on it. I scrapped the brackets and PS unit, and restored the tractor. I wouldn't go with the UB, because by the time you're up in the seat and comfortable you could have been done with what you needed to do with something like the JS2.

Not to bother you more :-), but what do you think about a setup on a U302 or M5? I haven't been around any MM's besides earlier letter series tractors, 4*'s, 5*'s, and M670's. Is an M5 pretty similar to a M602?

Here's another thing to ponder on. What's overkill for HP on a loader tractor? I've heard of G1000's with loaders, IH Hydro 186's, even the new C/IH tractors with MFWD come with loaders. I've even pondered a MF 1135, or an IH 1256 or 856 with a loader. Overkill? I supposed depends upon what your using the loader for. The farm I work on has a IH Hydro 186 with a Dual loader and a IH Hydro 656 with a Westendorf loader that they use for feed work. Mainly the 656 but if it's raining or winter then the 186 gets used. Might be trading off for a newer C/IH MX series with MFWD with loader. I'm curious to see what happens. Now days you see a lot of bigger tractors with loaders.

You got me there. My jobs are small and mainly for lifting tires and engines around the yard. I moved a double load of compost around the other day. Dad used one Jet 2 in cattle barns back in the 1960s. I'm not up on big scale farming. My frind has a 1256 with a Westendorf and quick attach forks on it. NICE!!! (but big) Here is a Jet that I put a trip bucket on.
