As a side note: Late 1949 (and possibly some early 1950) MM R's used a unique hood decal that was only 2 colors (red letter with black outline). 1950 R's used the 3 color hood decal that was used throughout the rest of R production. MM R's up through mid 1949 only used the "MM" decal on the fuel tank. There was no hood decal or "R" decal on the radiator shroud. I believe Mohr's (R&M distributors 712-677-2491) make the late 1949 hood decal in vinyl as well as the early gas tank only decals. I have an original late 1949 RTS with remnants of the original 2 color decals and a 1950 RTE which still had the original 3 color decals showing through before it was restored. Most people just use the commonly available 3 color hood decals on there late 1949 R's.

If your hood has the early hinged and louvered hood sides then its an early 1949 model. If it has the one piece non louvered hood then yours is a late 1949 model.
