There are four types of pto. Number 1 pto this unit usualy is driven from the end of a transmission top shaft. Number 2 ground speed pto, this unit is driven by the bottem shaft of transmission. This unit will have as many speeds as transmission has gears. Number 3 live pto this pto usualy has a second clutch of some type. This usualy alows operator to stop tractor with out stoping pto. MM first units builtwith this were ZB. However MM also had a retro kit for z. Number 4 Independent pto, this unit is driven from flywheel and has its own cluth and works seperate of traction clutch. MMs first tractor to ofer independent pto was 335.

JW,
I believe a live power was optional or dealer installed on the ZA series which were 30-40 hp tractors. The ZA came out in 1949. The 25-30 hp R series was never offered with live power. I have a ZB series with factory live power which came out in 1953. This early live power was mounted to the differential shaft. You pulled back a lever that stopped forward motion of the tractor but allowed the PTO to continue running. If this is not the type of live power you're thinking of then you'd have to go all the way to the 1956 MM 335 for a 30hp tractor with true live power. The PTO had its own clutch and was driven directly off of the crankshaft.
